Description | Volume one is a typrescript copy of the brigade diary Jan 1915-and includes a manuscript account with 7-page typescript copy giving an hourly 'Diary of Operations' for 1 July 1916, recording Meynell's overview of the attack on Gommecourt during the Battle of the Somme; and maps at the back. Pages headed 3rd North Midland Brigade, RFA, and 232nd Brigade.
The second volume gives Meynell's account of episodes of his war service written in 1933 and includes aerial photographs of the trenches at Gommecourt, hand drawn maps of the area and other photographs taken on a trip to the battlefield in 1923 [see D861/P/3/3]. Also includes: appointment to Lieutenancy in Territorial Army, 1908, at front; letters from Lord Sandon, 1934; and catalogue of C.S. Jagger Memorial Exhibition of war and peace sculpture, 1935. |
